There is a distinct power in getting thoughts out of your head and into the world before the day’s admin takes over.
It’s about more than just a schedule; it’s an external measure of accountability—a way to look back and see which ideas we actually expanded on and which ones we were right to ignore.
The Focus
- AntFest 53 Prep: Refinement of the birthday set with the guys to ensure everything is locked in for Woodstock.
- The BackBeats at Madeiras: Gearing up for tomorrow night’s show in Bergvliet; we’ve built some fantastic momentum there over the last few months, so the goal is to keep that energy high and the performance tight.
- Creative Record: Committing to this morning ritual. It’s easy to let the “micro-entrepreneurial” workflow become a blur of admin; this is my way of tracking the music and the projects to ensure I’m actually moving the needle.
The Insight
Running into an old friend like Mark Haze at the rehearsal rooms—someone I haven’t seen since the mid-2000s Mercury days—was a sharp reminder that music is, at its core, a community. While the number of live venues in the city might feel like it’s in decline, the “connective tissue” between us as performers hasn’t dissolved. We often think we’re working in silos, but when we actually get together and talk, we realise we have the collective power to solve the very problems that frustrate us. Even you, as The Reader of this post aren’t just an observer; you are part of that same network.
The Take-Away
Here’s to finding those unexpected moments of connection today.

This post is part of an effort to commit to a daily ritual: an (almost) daily reflection designed as both a mental health exercise and a tool for professional accountability. By spending a few minutes each morning carving out these pillars, I’m creating a personal record of where the energy goes and what’s actually keeping me busy. The goal is to build a reflection journal I can look back on to see which ideas grew and which ones fell away—while hopefully providing a few lessons and talking points for those of you navigating your own creative paths.
