The Golden Era of Our Playgrounds: ANTFEST53 is Coming Up

If you were part of the Cape Town music scene up to the 2000s, you know exactly what I’m talking about.

We didn’t just “go out”—we lived in these spaces. Crazy Cats, Mercury Live and Lounge The Jam), The Shack… weren’t just venues; they were our playgrounds. They were the rooms where we played our first real sets, shared a drink after a long soundcheck, and built a community that has somehow survived the madness of the industry for almost three decades.

I’ve spent 30 years in this “crazy” music and entertainment world, and the best part of it has always been the people I met in those rooms.

Many of us don’t see each other much these days, but I’ve always wanted to use my birthday as an excuse to bring that energy back into one space. To reunite, share a moment, and celebrate the fact that we’re still here and still creating.

That’s what AntFest53 is all about.

Where: Woodstock Brewery, Cape Town

Tickets for Antfest53 are a formality, in order to specifically reserve seats and places (and offer the performers a token of thanks). They are 2000s prices at R53. All proceeds will go to the featured artists (see the social announcements). You can reserve them here:
