Francois van Coke kicks off his 2026 release cycle , while AHCOM launches the “WE DON’T PLAY” campaign.
Francois van Coke Confronts Dreams and Technology
Francois van Coke kicks off his 2026 release schedule with “Nagmerries (Bye bye baby),” the first of four planned singles. He co-wrote the track with Fred den Hartog to process a recurring nightmare and confront modern anxieties about AI in the arts. The song blends the raw energy of the Violent Femmes with the theatrical weight of the band Ghost. Director Jacques van Rensburg uses disorienting visuals in the music video to mirror the futile frustration of a dream state.
Side note: Ideal for fans of Afrikaans rock who appreciate introspective lyrics and those interested in how artists navigate the digital age.
AHCOM Mobilises for Cape Town Musicians
AHCOM recently launched “WE DON’T PLAY,” a month-long advocacy campaign to improve working conditions for Cape Town musicians. This initiative promotes “Our Conditions Of Work,” a document that establishes fair standards for industry professionals. The campaign concludes on Saturday 16 May 2026 with a public event at Guga S’thebe in Langa. From 12:00 to 18:00, the programme offers workshops, panel discussions, and live performances to empower the local creative community and formalise labour expectations.
Side note: A must-attend for local performers, industry stakeholders, and anyone passionate about labour rights within the South African arts scene.
