This week’s digest details new releases from two South African artists as Amy Tjasink releases the lead track from her upcoming album and Amy Jones collaborates with producer Luke Goliath on her latest single.
Amy Tjasink releases indie-folk single “Shadows of the Sun”
Cape Town singer-songwriter Amy Tjasink has released her new single, “Shadows of the Sun”, which serves as the lead track for her album Valley Girl, scheduled for release on 14 August. Written in December 2025, the song was written following her father’s stroke. The track focuses on her commitment to continue pursuing music and carrying her father’s career encouragement forward, utilising thematic elements inspired by The Lion King.
The track features a combination of African rhythms, indie-folk textures, and pop melodies. This release follows her previous single, “Feels Like Mzansi,” which reached number one on Good Hope FM and led to a performance at the SAFTAs. The upcoming album is currently available to pre-save.
Side note: For listeners of indie-pop and narrative songwriting centered on family themes.
Amy Jones releases new single “Again”
Singer-songwriter Amy Jones has released her new single, “Again”, across digital streaming platforms. Written by South African songwriter Andre Graham, who has previously worked with Lloyiso and Shekhinah, the track focuses on the artist’s decision to focus on her family and son rather than her public music career.
The single features production by Luke Goliath, who previously produced her single “Nobody,” a track that reached the Radiomonitor Top 20 airplay chart in February. Since appearing on Idols South Africa, Jones has released the track “Dance on My Own,” which spent five weeks at number one on Heart FM, and has performed at events such as the Formula E Fan Park in Cape Town.
